Puff Quilt

6th August 2018

Four years ago I was pregnant with our first baby and was reduced to tears on the day my friend Caroline gifted me a puff quilt. She originally taught me to quilt and I couldn’t believe she was gifting me something she had made.

I was fascinated by the puff quilt and was keen to one day learn the technique myself. Fast forward four years and Caroline decided to teach the technique at our Quilting Club at Millie Moon.

In our June session we learned how to construct the blocks and then went away to stuff them. Then in our July session we learnt how to add the backing fabric and turn the binding.

I decided to make a mini version as a cushion for my little Pickle. It is now sitting in pride of place in his bedroom on a vintage Ercol chair. I can’t quite imagine making a full baby-sized quilt in this technique, as it is fairly fiddly and time consuming but it was great to finally learn how to do it.

The little Pickle always loved sleeping on his quilt as a newborn and I am super exciting to be sharing Caroline’s masterpiece with our new arrival in the autumn.

Thanks for the original quilt Caroline and thanks for the great tutorial!

And I couldn’t resist sharing a picture of my little Pickle on his quilt from 2014.
